Why Montessori and Why Inkwell?
Whether you’ve already decided that a Montessori education is something you want for your child, or you’re at some stage in your research, we invite you to take a look at some of the information contained on the next few pages. You may or may not be aware that, although there is a Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA), the name “Montessori” cannot be copyrighted and, therefore can be used by virtually any school – regardless of curriculum, materials, teachers or philosophy. That said, there are many effective and inspired hybrid Montessori programs operating in Ontario and across the country. While our Casa program for preschoolers is authentic Montessori, the Montessori philosophy is at the core of our Grade 1 & 2 program which incorporates the best of many other teaching models.
Inkwell is an affiliate member of the CCMA and as such, we are are required to adhere to CCMA guidelines and their Code of Ethics. We are also licensed by the Ministry of Social Services. All of our Teachers are graduates of various Montessori Programs including the Toronto Montessori Institute and the North American Montessori Centre.
Just as you chose your baby’s childcare facility or sitter, we recognize that as a parent, you want to exercise the same due diligence in finding a school with the right “feel”, credentials and curriculum – one that is best suited to your child’s personality and needs. The basic premise of Montessori is that children learn best in a social environment that supports their unique development. Based on the principle of freedom within limits and respect for each other’s differences, Dr. Maria Montessori believed that one should “never let the child risk failure until he has a reasonable chance of success.”
We’ve tried to anticipate some of your questions, concerns and requirements for additional information in the hope that we can make your decision a little easier. And even if it’s not our school you ultimately choose, it’s our pleasure to provide you with some interesting data that might make the fact-finding journey a little easier.
